I think that Dumbledore is going to pull a Gndalph and come back in the last book!
I feel like that's possible, but I don't know...I feel certain, though, that Dumbledore's death was not what it appeared to Harry...meaning, I'm not convinced that Snape murdered Dumbledore...Or if he did, it was because Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him...
I've also been thinking a lot about the Dursley's (particularly Petunia) and what role they are going to play in the final book. What do y'all think?
I think, Dumbledore is dead, but I like the idea of him still being around via a portrait. Not to mention, his funeral was so wonderful, I don't think Rowling would have made us all cry for not.
I just finished rereading #6, Harry believes Snape is evil based on hearsay and past experience with him in class. Dumbledore always believed that Snape was good. I think Snape is dble agent working for Dumbledore.
I think there is real possiblity that Harry could be the last horcrux because 1- his scar always hurts when Voldemort is active and near, 2- the prophacy says that they both must die, 3- Harry will die at the end b/c of his love for his closest friends and thus 4- Harry will be a savior figure. 5- Rowling insists there will not be any more HP books after 7.
I think RAB is Sirus' brother, Regulas Black.
Others to die- surley the all of the Malfoys, Pettigrew, Grayback, all of the evil folks will either be killed, imprisioned or loose their magic. I think there's a good chance that there will be a lot of death in this book on both sides. I wouldn't be surprised if Hagrid and Dobby also died.
I really want to find out what the deeper connection is with Petunia and Hogwarts and I still want more Sirus.
I think that Rowling made a shift in her writing between books 4 and 5. The first 4 books seam to be fun magical books. Five and six set the stage for seven. She's been adimant about this being the last book that she is going to have to kill off or wrap up any loose ends.
Hey mtnmomma....yeah yeah yeah! I agree with most points you make- though I guess I never thought about Hagrid's death. Oh, goddness, I don't know if I could manage that. Sobbing about Dumbledore's death for two weeks was enough, I can't imagine if Hagrid died...I agree that most of the "bad guys" are going to be eliminated somehow- whether by death or some other way. I have no idea how it's all going to happen, though. I feel like this last book is going to have to be 1000 pages long at least to cover the territory she's got set up for herself. I'm also not convinced of Draco's death. I sort of have this weird little hope that he'll start fighting for the D.A. I don't know why I think that...I guess I want that more than think that will actually come to pass. However it all goes down with Snape, the Malfoys, Greyback, Harry, RAB, Voldemort, Hagrid, Petunia, Neville, Ron-n-Hermione, etc etc etc, it's going to have to be some epic knock-down drag out a la Lord of the Rings. Don't you think? Luckily, we are down to counting the days before "Deathly Hallows" is released (well, I am anyway!)

As J.K. Rowling has been quoted as saying that "Dumbledore is giving me some trouble," during the writing of book seven, it seems to me to indicate that he will be back in some form, I think in portrait form since the portrait of him was mentioned at the end of book six. I wonder if there are any other portraits of Dumbledore? I also think, to comment on previous posts, that Draco does make some kind of turnaround. He couldn't kill Dumbledore, and Dumbledore was really kind to him. Also, Draco befriended Moaning Myrtle, which tells me that his hatred of muggleborns is more of a stance than anything else. I am really curious about what has been foreshadowed in the movie of book three that J.K. Rowling mentioned. Any ideas?
Hey Barbara,
yeah...I thought about that whole Dumbledore portrait life thing...I bet there are pictures of him everywhere (at least I hope so!)...In terms of Draco's turnaround, something has recently occured to me...Do you or anyone else out there think that Draco or maybe even Snape will lay down his life for Harry's? Perhaps J.K. will surprise those of us who think Harry has doom written all over him and will kill off one of those guys in Harry's stead...
Hi Caroline, I really don't think that Harry will be killed off. To me it just seems too boring and typical of the hero genre. I definately agree that Dumbledore's death was not what it appeared to Harry. I just reread the end of book six, and I was struck by Hermione's last interaction with Snape. She unquestioningly believed that Snape was off to fight the Death Eaters. I think (hope?) that that is not just Hermione being duped, but an indication that Snape did have a noble motive. Maybe he even stunned Flitwick to protect him. As Dumbledore said, it will take a powerful wizard to defeat Voldemort even if all of his horcruxes are gone, perhaps Dumbledore's plan has been for Harry to destroy the horcruxes, and Snape to do the actual killing. Kind of an inverted scenario of Snape helping Draco kill Dumbledore. I am definately on the side of hoping that Snape is a good guy. But there is a compelling scenario that I read on an HP fansite, that Snape has been the arch villian all along, and he has just been using other people to help him defeat Voldemort. It's hard to believe that soon we will actually know!
